Junk Jewelry

February 4th, 2010 — 4:19pm

Recently the Wasteland Beautification Project Truck has been spotted outside of a Guilford, CT residence which is undergoing a major renovation. In dealing with some of the usual construction debris (such as aluminum cans and shreds of electrical wiring), the WBP has been employing fine metalwork practices.

Foundry (FUN-DREE FUNNY-DREAM, FUNNEL-DRILL) FUN facts and tips

METAL CASTING is older than Jesus! Do it in your own backyard, tell the cops you’re grilling burgers! Don’t set the house on fire.

There is a ton of literature on how to do it, we’ll be happy to share what we know.

FOUNDRY SAFETY personal SAFETY personnel SAFETY your SAFETY my SAFETY

EVERYTHING NON-FLAMABLE!!! Synthetic fibers only good for scarification

Wear: COTTON, WOOL, DENNIM, LEATHER LEATHERS!

SUNGLASSES the less stylish the better à makes for fun costumes

Closed-toe SHOES – leather is best

Long SLEEVES/pants

GLOVES- bring ‘em if you got ‘em

Our Furnace is named WASTOID

Runs on waste cooking oil à free from restaurants

Gravity fed no pressurized explosive hazard

Oil burns only when atomized (what the myster spraybottle does)

And combusts only in temperatures above 620ºF

Wastoid likes greensand

Greensand is a casting process where impressions are made in a bed of sand and then filled with molten metal. The word “green” refers to a state of a refractory material rather than color. Greensand is a mixture of sand and clay lightly dampened (thus “green”) to allow a certain stickyness in order to maintain shape of impressions made to be cast. This is what we will be doing.

Another casting process is called lost-wax method, this we will not be doing.
